UTRGV vs Texas Wesleyan REcap
The UTRGV Vaqueros closed their inaugural non-conference schedule in style, routing Texas Wesleyan 61–13 at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium. With the win, UTRGV improves to 4–0, joining South Alabama in 2009 as the only FCS programs since 2008 to start 4–0 in their first season. Quarterback Eddie Lee Marburger led the charge, throwing for 223 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 55 yards and another score. The ground game was unstoppable, with five different backs finding the end zone, including four freshmen. Defensively, the Vaqueros forced five turnovers. Alijah Prosser delivered the highlight with a 52-yard pick-six, giving UTRGV its second defensive touchdown in as many weeks. Head coach Travis Bush praised his team’s effort, saying, “We want to go 1–0 every week. We did that. Now it’s time for conference play.” The Vaqueros head to Louisiana next week to face Southeastern in their Southland Conference opener.
