Undefeated PSJA North dominates Mission 65–14 in playoff opener
PSJA North left little doubt in its playoff opener, rolling past Mission 65–14 in a Class 5A Division I bi-district game Friday at PSJA Stadium.
The Raiders, now 11–0, scored on their opening drive and led 52–0 by halftime. Mission closes its season at 4–7.
PSJA North methodically moved from its own 23 to the Mission 3 on the first series, finishing with a 3-yard rushing touchdown by senior quarterback Daren Garcia for a 6–0 lead. After a defensive stop, Garcia capped another drive with a 1-yard score, and freshman tight end Jaxon Evans added a 2-point conversion to make it 14–0.
The defense quickly extended the margin. Sophomore receiver Romeo Perales jumped a pass for a 20-yard interception return touchdown, and senior kicker Angel Garcia’s PAT made it 21–0 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second, freshman quarterback Luke Gamez took over in the red zone, finding senior receiver Bryan Guerrero for a 4-yard touchdown to push the lead to 28–0. Sophomore back Isaiah Garza added a 43-yard rushing score, and Gamez later connected with Evans for a 20-yard touchdown, stretching the advantage to 42–0.
Special teams and defense closed out the half. Sophomore kicker Cris Raigosa converted a 20-yard field goal, and junior Jason Almanza returned a fumble 10 yards for another score. With Angel Garcia’s extra point, PSJA North went into the break up 52–0.
The Raiders added a 4-yard rushing touchdown by Guerrero in the third quarter and a 4-yard scoring run by sophomore back Romeo Garza in the fourth to reach 65 points.
Mission scored two late touchdowns—one passing and one rushing—to avoid the shutout and set the final margin at 65–14.
PSJA North advances to the area round, where the Raiders are slated to face Boerne-Champion.
