Guerra’s Four Touchdowns Power PSJA North Past Harlingen South on Homecoming Night
PHARR — On a night filled with fireworks and homecoming energy, PSJA North leaned on senior running back Ethan Guerra, who exploded for 317 rushing yards and four touchdowns, powering the Raiders to a 48–35 win over Harlingen South on Friday at PSJA Stadium.
The victory keeps North undefeated at 5–0 overall and 3–0 in district play, extending their dominance behind a physical offensive front and a ground game that’s quickly becoming one of the Valley’s most feared.
Guerra wasted no time setting the tone, bursting through for touchdown runs of 70 and 89 yards in the opening quarter to erase an early deficit and swing momentum in North’s favor.
“I want to thank my O-line especially for doing the dirty work to give me those holes so I could take it to the house,” Guerra said.
Harlingen South made it a fight, pulling within one score midway through the third quarter after Caden Edwards punched in his third touchdown of the night. But Guerra and the Raiders’ offensive line responded immediately, grinding through defenders and reclaiming control. His third score pushed the lead to 35–21 late in the third, and by the time he crossed the goal line for the fourth time — a 13-yard run early in the fourth quarter — the outcome was all but sealed.
“I knew I had to keep running the ball for my team,” Guerra said. “I knew I had to help my team through the offense. The defense gave us a ton of stops, so I had to keep pushing.”
Quarterback Daren Garcia helped balance the attack with a sharp play-action passing game, connecting with Isaiah Garza for a 17-yard touchdown late to make it 48–28. North’s defense, led by Josiah Solis, came up with key stops and takeaways to keep the Hawks from mounting another comeback.
Even as the lead grew, Guerra kept his focus on the team’s long-term goals.
“I told them we just have to work hard every play,” he said. “I told them every play to keep giving their best, finish the game strong.”
Harlingen South fought until the final whistle behind Edwards’ four-touchdown effort, but the Raiders’ depth and physicality proved too much.
With the victory, PSJA North remains atop the district standings heading into next week’s matchup against Harlingen High.
